Ras Arcane featured on B-Style’s Mike Brown tribute song “You’re Not Alone”

Several years ago Ras Arcane and B-Style released a track over Humble Camp’s Introduction Riddim, produced by Jah T Jr. The song was called ‘East Meets West’ and can best be summed up by the line, “If you want to build a bridge, you need a man on both sides.” In light of the recent Mike Brown shooting in Ferguson, Mo, B-Style and Arcane decided to bridge the distance gap once again, and unite styes for a powerful message. The track is debut release from Executive Producer Matt Nagengast, VP of Rick Ross Music Group. B- Style made the beat and recruited his brother Big Poppa for the chorus. Add in Kyle Bent and Ras Arcane and you have “You’re Not Alone.” Rick Ross, Matt Nagengast, B-Style and crew went down to Ferguson where they interacted daily with the community and shot footage which was later used in the Official Video put together by BangOut Films. All proceeds from the video will be donated to Mike Brown’s family. You can donate by clicking here.

“Wounded City” out now!

The summer of 2014 was a bloody one that was filled with gun violence and murder. On Fourth of July weekend alone, there were 82 people shot and 14 people killed. “Wounded City” is commentary on the situation and a plea for change. The song addresses multiple aspects of the issue and ultimately accepts societal responsibility and offers a message of hope in that it is we ourselves who can make the changes we want to see. The music was created by King Asad, as was the cover art. Check out the lyric video below, which is set to a slideshow of images capturing the sentiments of the people of Chicago who are affected by this daily. “Wounded City” is a free release for promotional use only, and can be downloaded here.

Ras Arcane performs for HIH Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie of Ethiopia, Grandson of HIM Haile Selassie I

On June 28, 2014, the grandson of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie of Ethiopia, came to Chicago for an official visit. His three day trip coincided with the 60th anniversary of when his grandfather visited Chicago in 1954.

Ras Arcane and Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie of Ethiopia

The Prince attended a dinner and banquet with the Rastafari community of Chicago, where he spoke a few words and was presented with gifts. Ras Arcane was among a few local artists who performed for the Prince, singing an original song entitled “Haile Selassie Loves You” to a Nyabinghi drum accompaniment. It was truly a royal and blessed evening that was well organized by those involved. If you haven’t already, pick up a copy of “The Wise Mind of Haile Selassie I” from Frontline Books, which was edited and has a forward by Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie himself, as well as an introduction by Ras Sekou Tafari, who hosted much of the weekend’s events.

Ras Arcane and Sensi Star at Tonic Room in Chicago (2014)

Ras Arcane and Humble Camp producer, Sensi Star, performed a unique electronic live set in Chicago on April 29, 2014 at the Tonic Room for Illuminati Congo’s “Roots, Rap, Reggae” event. The set mainly consisted of tracks off of the Life Over Everything EP, and debuted a new sound and approach to Ras Arcane’s live performances. Together, Arcane and Sensi Star utilized Ableton Live, Lemur, the Akai APC40 and more to construct extended remixes and dub versions of the EP on stage, complete with live vocals. The night also featured great performances by Mike Flo (Dead Prez/RBG Family), Selecta-T (Black Sabbath Sound/D.O.V.E. Muzik), and DJ’s Graduate as well as Sage Fonte & Lord Dubious (Beatdown 3000). The evening was full of vibes and a success thanks to host Jahn (Illuminati Congo) who also blessed the place with freestyles throughout the night. Lotus brings out Ras Arcane for New Years Eve in Philly

LotusEFactory01
Lotus played a two-day run at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia for New Years Eve this year, closing out a very successful 2013. As several members of the band call Philly home, they were extremely well received by an energetic and excited crowd. The New Years Eve show was sold out, and in addition to two amazing sets of music, fans were also treated to a spectacular light show and extensive glow in the dark decorations. An over-sized mushroom forest was installed upstairs, and there were reminders all around that you were not just at a Lotus show, but a very special Lotus show. Toward the end of the first set, Ras Arcane joined Lotus on stage to perform their single “Cloud 9,” off of the Monks album. The lively audience responded well to the change of pace, and got to have a little taste of hip hop amongst their Lotus experience. Here is a nice write up about the show from jamband.com, here is where you can download the night’s performance, and below is some video from the show as well.

On October 4, 2013, Ras Arcane went to Colorado to join Lotus on stage to perform their collaborative single “Cloud 9″ at one of the most cherished venues in the United States, Red Rocks Amphitheater. Named by Rolling Stone as the Best Amphitheater in America, Red Rocks holds a capacity crowd of 9,450 and is located just outside of Denver. In 2012, Lotus laid down a very memorable performance at Red Rocks (which can be seen here), and fans were eagerly anticipating the bands return in 2013. The show was originally supposed to take place on September 13, but was cancelled at the last minute due to what ended up being a rather significant and disastrous flood. The show was rescheduled for October 6, and Lotus came back in full force to throw down for a truly epic night. Despite frigid 25 degree temperatures, the band played for hours to a roaring crowd that was ready to dance. Big respect to Lotus’ guitarist Mike Rempel (above) for managing to play absolutely killer sets despite his guitar strings constantly trying their best to fall out of tune due to the cold, and big up to Lotus’ Colorado fans for partying and enjoying the freezing night as if it were 80 degrees. I was truly honored and humbled to take the stage at Red Rocks for what was hands down one of the most memorable and amazing nights of my life. The history and significance of the venue was not lost on me as I looked over all of the posters and pictures backstage, commemorating all those who had played there before. The crowd response was overwhelming and once again I give thanks to Lotus for the opportunity. Watch out for footage of the show and download audio of the entire nights performance here.

“Life Over Everything” [EP] available on iTunes September 3, 2013

rasarcane-loe-fnl-front222

The latest project from Ras Arcane, is a six song EP entitled “Life Over Everything.” The project features production from Humble Camp as well as individually produced tracks from Jah T Jr and Sensi Star. Also featured are artists Brando from Jamaica, and Chicago’s own Illuminati Congo. “Life Over Everything” stylistically falls heavily into the category of hip hop as opposed to reggae, where Arcane had more often frequented. It was written and recorded during Arcane’s transition from his home of over a decade, Philadelphia, to his childhood home of Chicago. The narratives of life in these cities can be heard in the lyrics, as Arcane performs an observational analysis of his surroundings. The EP transitions through different styles, feelings, and emotions, as it takes the listener on a gritty ride through life in the world of today. The EP was executive produced by Brian Brink and is being digitally distributed by IDC (Independent Distribution Collective) with a scheduled release date of September 3, 2013. “Life Over Everything” is available on iTunes and other major digital distribution sources. Additionally, Humble Camp Productions has a limited number of physical copies printed up, as well as a small number of limited edition posters. Available Now on iTunes

Humble Camp Productions officially released their latest project, the Guiding Light Riddim, on June 26, 2012. The 14 song album is available at all major online retailers through Zojak World Wide distribution, and features a slew of artists in addition to Ras Arcane including Zebulun, Ras Myhrdak, Ras Professor, Daniel Bless, Luv Fyah & Binghi Ghost and many more. “We Alone” is Ras Arcane and Philadelphia based artist Jah Sunbeam’s contribution to the riddim, closing out the album and setting the tone to leave the listeners with. Recorded at Humble Camp Studios, the collaboration was a natural effort as the artists wrote and recorded their parts at the same time while in the studio together. That cohesive energy is definitely noticeable as their styles blend to deliver a powerful message of devotion to Rastafari and the blessings bestowed by H.I.M. Haile Selassie I. The message of guidance and protection is at home on the Guiding Light riddim, as the music created the right atmosphere for the words. “We Alone” is available now on iTunes for $0.99 or the entire album is available for $7.99.

Official video released for new single “What Happened”

In August 2011, Ras Arcane shot a video with the Brown Brothers for the upcoming single, “What Happened.” The track, which should be on I-Tunes soon, is a product of Humble Camp Productions and is a feature track off of Arcane’s upcoming album. Shot in Norristown, Pa, the video depicts the story of the artist speaking out against the corruption and abuse of the modern day church. More specifically, the song addresses the taboo issue of the molestation of the youth by the church’s priests. Sensitive as it may be, it is an issue that requires attention and addressing as it only continues to get worse. While no personal or religious offense is meant, this song is written with no apology. There are no excuses and this MUST STOP NOW. Click here to view the video on YouTube’s site.

DJ Cramske & Ras Arcane in California

Years ago, Ras Arcane and DJ Cramske linked up as members of Burndown All-Stars, a 12 piece Philly based live hip-hop crew. After the dissolving of Burndown, the two continued to work together on several singles including “World in a Bottle” featuring Sara Lugo, “When I Was Young,” “Motivate,” “Free the Herb,” and several others. In addition, they worked together on Ras Arcane’s “Get 2 Know U: The Official Mixtape – Chapter 1.” On September 24, 2011 they performed their first live set together at the “Good Hip Hop” series hosted at Jasper O’Farrell’s in Sebastoplol, Ca. The night was part of a monthly residency put together by local DJ’s including DJ Fossil, DJ Jason the Argonaut, DJ Capsize and DJ BigJohnStud. The set was primarily designed as a hip hop performance, utilizing much of Ras Arcane’s more emcee based material. After a hype show and a warm crowd reception, many more are sure to come.

Freeborn & Ras Arcane “Blaze Fire”

On Saturday August 6, 2011 artists Freeborn and Ras Arcane joined forces for an acoustic show at Milkboy Coffee house in Ardmore, Pa. Arcane and Freeborn linked in Philadelphia at Humble Camp Studios and soon after began building songs and rehearsing together. An opportunity to open for fellow Philadelphia band, Whitewater Pass, provided the perfect setting for an all acoustic set showcasing these new songs. A short preview video made for the show is still online and can be viewed here. Acoustic guitar, Nyabinghi drums and some select percussion set the tone for an intimate yet powerful performance. There will definitely be more to come in the future, so keep an eye out.

2011: First Set of Live Shows Prove Successful

Beginning in January 2011 Ras Arcane hit the stage once again. As an artist who has always appreciated aspects of both the live environment and the studio, he has always been searching for a way to bring those two worlds together. More precisely, how to bring the studio’s capabilities to the live atmosphere. Finally, that merge has begun to take form. Armed with the Akai APC40, Ableton, a MacBook Pro, Serato, two Technics turntables, The Bridge, Samplers, Midi Keyboards, V Drums, Horns, Percussion and Vocals, Ras Arcane and camp create a unique blend of original reggae, dancehall, dub and a whole lot more via a polished and dynamic sound in a live setting. The project features Adam Flicker on keys and horns, SensiStar (Royal Majestic Sound) on the APC and turntables, and Wes Rast on drums and percussion. The first show was January 8, 2011 at North Star Bar in Philadelphia and the second was at Kuf Knotz’s ‘Boombox Collective’ event at World Cafe Live on February 8th. The shows featured different sets and provided the audience with a look into the new project and songs from Arcane’s upcoming album. Ras Arcane, Cise & El Feco B release single for “Made Fresh: Vol. 1″ Mixtape

Leader's Conference

In January 2010, Philadelphia based clothing company FreshMeltWater released the mixtape “Made Fresh: Vol. 1,” featuring some of Philly’s finest talent including Truck North, Guru, Cee Knowledge, Wale, Reef the Lost Cauze, Hezekiah and many others. Drew.ish from Dephonic approached Ras Arcane about submitting a track for the album, and Leader’s Conference was the result. Jah T Jr and Humble Camp Productions made the riddim specifically for the project, and it was decided to also feature other Philly artists; rapper Cise, and reggae/dancehall artist El Feco B. The song in a sense represents Humble Camp’s presence in the music world, blending the vibes of reggae and dancehall with the local hip hop energy they are surrounded by. Enjoy this song as a free download by clicking here or download the mixtape in it’s entirety by clicking here.
